Compatibility

The lexicon can be operated in WSC 5.2 or higher. A separate version exists for older WSC installations. Existing customers can upgrade to the current version at a discounted price (~20€).

Different views

The lexicon has relied on a column layout for years. We have noticed that this layout is not the optimal display type for every use case. For this reason, the Lexicon 7.0 comes with two alternative views. Each view has a different focus and functionality. The administrator can decide in the settings which view should be used.

Mark entries as new

Often you update an article to a very large extent. However, the changes do not automatically mark the article as new. Thus, it can happen that users do not notice these changes accordingly. In the new version, entries can now be marked as new manually.

Change owner

Articles are sometimes created by multiple users or taken over later in the process. However, the entry is still assigned to the original author. It is now possible to change the owner of an entry manually via the user interface.

Article and teaser images

Article and teaser images can now be uploaded. These are displayed accordingly in the tile view and in the entry listing and allow a more individual view of the entries.

Article centric

The heart of the lexicon is its articles. We have spent much time, to optimize the view to bring the content to front. Each item can be easily created using a WYSIWYG editor. We also support a simplified wiki syntax, which let you create headings and subdivisions. In addition you can use all standard functions of the WSC like bbcodes, tags and attachments.

Internationalization

Multi-language communities are becoming increasingly important! We have recognized this trend and already optimized the lexicon for internationalization. Each item is associated with a language. In addition same articles in different languages can be linked to each other. The lexicon recognizes links to other articles and presents your users only links in the language, which has been enabled by your users.

Change management

The lexicon lives of the collaborative creation of entries. In order to do not lose track even the smallest change to an article, the lexicon keeps track of previous versions. In order monitor changes to articles the lexicon provides a way to compare versions. If made changes have not achieved the desired effect, any previous version can be restored. If you are completely satisfied with a version, you can also protect against further changes.

Individualized fields

A lexicon can be difficult to adjust to suit your needs of your community. A car community requires a different knowledge base as a gaming forum. With static input fields you can hardly meet the various needs. For this reason we have created the possibility of individualized fields. You can determine which fields are available, decide their properties and who has access to it. For ease of reference fields can be grouped into one category.
Each box has a certain type. According to the type the appropriate box and format is selected. For better individualization, a special expert mode enabled, where more options are available for each box: validation pattern (regex), PHP output class and more!

System-wide content links

One of the highlights and strengths of the lexicon is the system-wide content linking. If a user of your community writes a new a post, which includes terms from the lexicon, it lexicon will automatically detected and linked to the knowledge base. The collective knowledge is not hidden on any base, but is automatically included in the content. In technical communities, this function can be used e.g. for the explanation of technical terms. Should one member be not familiar with the used term, he only needs to move the mouse over the link and a brief explanation is shown to him.
A special highlight is the integration into the WYSIWYG editor, which is used by all applications. Entries of the lexicon can be actively linked if a question mark before the word while writing. The lexicon automatically detects the input and suggests suitable entries from the lexicon.

Conditions of use

For legal protection, you can create conditions of use for the lexicon. Your users and guests must accept them before they can enter and use the Lexicon. The Terms of Use supports multiple languages.

Search

Never lose track! The lexicon integrates seamlessly into the search of your community and enables an efficient search in larger communities. Of course, the search covers all permissions and language settings, i.e. your users see only the entries to which they really have access.

Moderation

To have better control over the entries, the lexicon offers comprehensive moderation functions. You can determine which features you want to use it. The moderation functions can even be limited to categories.
The lexicon supports the possibility to manual check new entries by a moderator. If one user violates your terms of use in one of its entries, he can be reported in a quick fashion to a moderator. Afterwards the moderator has extensive options, how he wants to deal with the report.
In addition to the general moderation the lexicon offers a quick-moderation feature. A special button is displayed to the moderator for each, which provides access to the main functions. Using this functionality most important tasks can be completed in a quick and efficient way.

Comments

Articles are often unclear and erroneous. To avoid a tedious and redundant communication via private messages or e-mail, a comment function has been integrated into the lexicon. Users can post questions or comments, to which, the creator of the entry (or other members of your community) can react and respond. This enables the continuous improvement of content in your lexicon by your user base!

Categories

The most important thing in a lexicon are its articles. In order to do not lose track of entries you can sorted them in categories. The active category displays all entries, which are located in the current category or one of its children (e.g . if the category "car" is active, the entries are displayed, which are located in this category or its child category "used cares"). The categories serve as a kind of individualized filter.
You can determine whether each entry can appear in more than one category, or if an entry has to be assigned to a single category. Depending on your field of application is the lexicon adapts to your needs!
