Dear Sir,
I would like to use an swf file in my top banner. In wbb2, I had no problem as I was able to edit the main index in my style template. I need guidance on how to do this in wbb3.

You have to change the header template, via ACP.
Put you swf code where the banner should be placed. May you have to disable the header background or place a transparent image.

Yes i just noticed that too, he needs help with this for wBB3.
My suggestion is look at the template system and style system, after words you can do so much in so little time! There is not real way of making it easy, so just practice and you'll get it right, took me about a day to learn some of the basics, imagine how much you can get done in one week ;).
