You hate long URLs and do not want to use third party services? Then the URL-Shortener is exactly the right thing for you. Not only is it very easy to set up and use, it is also modularly expandable and offers interfaces for third-party extensions.

Tutorial: Make short URLs even shorter

Attention: this guide does not grant any claim to support.

Option 1:

Activate the link rewrites. So domain.de/urls/index.php?r/1324/ => domain.de/urls/r/1324/. More about the link rewrites can be found in the WoltLab Manual.

Option 2:

To remove the /urls/ (the path to the URL shortener selected during installation) from the short URLs, type URL shortener: redirect in the administration search bar and click on the page that appears. Alternatively, you can find the page under Content > CMS > Pages > URL Shortener: Redirect (probably on page 2).

Now select your main installation in the dropdown menu at App: (domain.de/).

Option 3:

If your WoltLab Suite Core is reachable on domain.de/, you create a redirect on another (sub-)domain. This can be i.domain.de or maindo.de.

The other sub-domain must now be entered as external domain in the expert mode. In addition, you must forward from this other (sub-)domain to your WSC installation.

What exactly the forwarding looks like depends on your server and the settings of your WSC. The configuration needs to be in the directory of your (sub-)domain redirecting to the URL shortener.

Example configuration for .htaccess (Apache), if the latest URL shortener version has been installed under /urls/ & link rewrites are enabled:

Gibt es die Möglichkeit, mehrere Verzeichnisse für den Redirect zu erstellen?

Also könnte ich bspw. wählen, ob ich, wenn ich einen Link erstelle, ihn unter
example.com/s/abcde oder example.com/ref/abcde laufen lasse? Ich bin zurzeit auf der Suche nach einem Plug-in oder einer Funktion, mit welchem ich nicht nur Short-URLs, sondern auch Reflinks erstellen kann.

  Mehrere Verzeichnisse können nicht erstellt werden.
  
  Aber es ist möglich alle Kurz-URLs unter domain.de/ref/xxxxx laufen zu lassen.

  Das Verzeichnis ist bei uns nun /ref/ - URL Rewrites sind auch aktiviert. Somit lautet die URL nun example.com/r/abcde gibt es eine Möglichkeit das /r/ anzupassen (und bspw. in /ref/ zu ändern)?

  Setze bei der Seite "URL-Shortener: Redirect" die individuelle URL bitte mal auf "ref". Sag mir Bescheid, ob das dann den gewünschten Effekt gebracht hat.

  Nein, nicht wirklich. Dann ist die URL ja "/ref/r/". Ich würde gerne das "/r/" durch etwas Eigenes ersetzen, insofern das möglich ist.

Nochmal eine Frage, ist es möglich das Wort /urlshort/ im Link umzubennen?

Bevor ich das Plugin kaufe, habe ich noch eine Frage.

Wie schaut es mit der Abfrage der Open Graph Meta Tags aus? Ich teile oft Links vom Forum, Galerie und Artikel auf Facebook und WhatsApp und benötige da korrekte "Vorschaugrafiken bzw. -texte".

  Das "index.php" ist nur in der URL, wenn keine URL-Umschreibung aktiviert ist. Ist diese Option aktiv ist https://meinedomain.de/urlshort/r/e8f4 möglich. Wenn du dann deinen Webserver noch anders konfigurierst ist auch https://meinedomain.de/r/e8f4 oder https://anderedomain.de/e8f4 möglich.

  Du musst halt, genau wie für jede andere App, wenn du die SEO-Umschreibung aktiv hast, den URL-Shortener dort hinzufügen und auch dann wäre "nur" https://meinedomain.de/urlshort/r/e8f4 das möglich (eine Anleitung dazu gibt es aber in meinem Lexikon). Für die anderen Varianten gibt es zudem auch Themen in meinem Forum.

kann man da auch andere domains angeben ? wenn man z.b eine lange hat und eine Kurze?

  Dies ist mit dem "Experten Modus" und einer zusätzlichen Anpassung der Webserver Config möglich. Dazu gibt es auch Beiträge bei mir im Forum wo User für Apache und nginx die Config geteilt haben.
