IMDb English embed links displaying German text

  • Affected Version
    WoltLab Suite 5.5

    Hi all,

Embeds from the film site imdb.com are sometimes, but not always, displaying as German text, not in English as it should be. Not sure what's going on, as this issue has only started recently and only with some IMDb links, but I suspect that IMDb has several versions of the titles in other languages on their site and the embed is taking the German one instead of English.

Look here on my site for some examples of this:

  • Thanks. I can confirm that the rich embed functionality does not request a specific language variant (accept-language) when making requests. Ideally the thread language would be used, but that information is not readily available at the time the request is performed. It would also be incompatible with the internal deduplication that happens when a link is posted repeatedly. So this will likely be fixed by always requesting contents in the default language of the community.

    Added the Label Fixed
  • Hi

this will be fixed as described in WoltLab Suite 5.5.10 (it didn't make the cut for today's 5.5.9, because we want some testing for all changes). The outgoing requests will now send an accept-language header, preferring the default language of the community, but accepting everything else with lower priority.

I'd like to note something interesting about the embed you linked: The title of the movie is in German, but the description (“Aging hollywood stuntman”) is in English. It would be “Der alternde Hollywood-Stuntman” in German. When I tested the fix locally, both the title and description always matched up. So something funky is going on in IMDB :)
