Allow to translate page names

  • App
    WoltLab Suite Core

Please allow to translate the page names in the language files. I ran my installation in English and I have translated the Suite, forum, and filebase to Spanish, however when I want to select a page or a system box, I always see its name in English, although in the frontend is properly translated.

This is not a problem if the admin speaks/understands the language which was used during the installation (in my case, it was English), but when the admin doesn't know the language it's hard to find a page or a system box. I experienced this on the demo, all page and box names were in German, and unfortunately I don't speak German and sometimes it was hard to find the box I was looking for.

  • Yes but bearing in mind the amount of pages and boxes, that's not a practical solution. The easier way would be to do it in the language files. Besides, the problem stays the same if there are several admins and one of them doesn't speak the language used to name the page/box. The ideal solution is to update those names according to the user interface language.

  • I understand , but you can create new pages, new boxes etc and the new name is not in the translation ....

The solution is probably to have as article monolingual or multilingual

  • I also think we should be able to name pages and boxes in different languages when creating them. For multilingual pages and boxes, they could be named as the titles with the option (as it exists now) to display or not the title in the front-end. Probably this can't be implemented in the current version, but at least for next release (3.1) could be done.

Just look at the thread I quoted here, that is a potential customer that is probably gone because he couldn't understand the German language in the back-end.

  • Until the reply I got, I thought it was a oversight by them.

Most of the demo is in English, so why not translate everything into English?

It's very bizarre behaviour having a "English" demo, that is not entirely in English especially some of the important areas like menus and boxes.

I reckon it would take them under a hour to translate the remaining German language parts into English, yet, clearly by the response I got, they have taken a decision NOT to.

From what I can understand, I really like! But as you say, I cannot possibly be a customer when I cannot read all the language.

XF2 is out VERY soon. Perhaps WoltLab might like to have a think about that.

  • Hi Jupiter, I don't like XenForo and I hate their ACP, but it's your decision...

When you install any WoltLab product the first time, you can choose either English or German for the installation (look at my screenshots, you'll notice that page names are in English), WoltLab have chosen German for their demo, which is normal as they are Germans. What you can do in the demo is clicking the box/page and change its name, usually if you click on Contents you'll see a tab for German and a tab for English (I have English and Spanish), then you can copy the English title and paste it in the General Information tab as the name for the page/box. know is not the ideal solution, hopefully they will consider to update the names according to the user language.

  • Thanks for that Caribe, but I'm not going to translate their demo for them. If they're not interested in English speaking customers and provide a demo in English, as is clearly the case, then that is their choice.
