Hi, I do fresh install WSC 3.0 and forum 5.0, then did data import from mybb 1.8
Then I notice some missing avatar in quotes, especially when it was my posts that quoted. I can't see my avatar at all.

The avatar is only displayed if there is an exact match on the username. Even the slightest derivation will cause a mismatch.

I see nothing but some blurry stuff, no idea if it is actually the same. Anyway, the avatar is taken from the author name and that is an exact match, so no matter what the blurry stuff says, they're not the same.
Thanks you for providing access credentials, these have been indeed two different usernames, but it was anything but obvious. The upper username as actually A B ( is a whitespace that disallows wrapping, looks like the space you can create with your space bar) and the second was A B. These do look the same to the naked eye, but down at a technical level these two are two completely different things.
I'll see if I can get the HTML parser to replace these protected whitespaces with ordinary ones.
I'm sorry, but the change affects new posts only and does not apply to already existing and converted ones.

There was a user manual for Burning Board 4.0 written by Andrea Berg, maybe she'll say something about a new version for the WSC? 
this issue is still present at 5.0.1
Similar to other issues of these kind, they're related to the input processing only, meaning they won't magically fix themselves. The patch can only correct the behavior when dealing with a new message (or saving an altered one), but not modify messages during display.
