It's taking a long time for new members to receive their email verification and I want to rule out any possible issues with WBB before I contact my host. I'm using PHP for email and my PHP version is 5.6. Is there anything on the WoltLab side that can be causing a long delay with email sending?

if the mails arrive some time in the future, instead of missing entirely it is out of scope for Burning Board. Burning Board tells the server to deliver the mail and does not care about it any more. What happens afterwards is up to the mail server. If the mail queue is full the mail might be delayed, if the recipients mail server ist unavailable the mail might be delayed and so on.

I ended up sending a support ticket to my host and they determined the problem to be a firewall that had SMTP_BLOCK set to 1. According to my host, that setting was preventing the emails from being sent or being sent quickly.
