Microsoft Windows 10

  • Microsoft Windows 10 is now being released. If you preserved a copy, you may notice a little folder on your computer within your C:\ drive which is titled $Windows.~BT (it's a hidden folder, do NOT do anything with it). This is Microsoft downloading your free copy of Windows 10 onto your computer.

Who here is going to upgrade or have you already? Some of you being in different time-zones may have already upgraded. Would love to hear your experience. :)

Might just drop all Winblows and switch to Linux..

  • Your Windows 10 copy is only legal, if your Windows 8.1 copy has been legal. ;)

Yeah, i know... but my windows 8.1 was not legal and it activated in windows 10 when i did the upgrade. (it was activated on 8.1 and it passed the genui check). Any how, i like windows 10 :)

  • Weird I do have that folder :D
I should do a backup haha

I am however curious what Linux distro would you use? I personally think Ubuntu or OpenSuSe would be best for a desktop. I use to be a diehard Ubuntu fan, but I learned how much easier and stable OpenSuSe can be. Most of all, it was more complete without having to add so many 3rd party repositories

Please don't insult my intelligence and research. My family does this shit to me, I dislike when people can't take 5 minutes out of their day to research anything at all, and act like they know all, and what I know is bullshit or conspiracies. People should use their smart devices to help make them smarter, not even more dumb down (sheeple), like walking zombies. Anyway, I'm done on this discussion, hence removing the last post (#8) myself.

Not sure, on the other tower I have it's just Linux Mint. I haven't really thought much on what I would try next lol. The other tower hasn't even been fired up in forever, I spend more time on Windows 7 tower because of Photoshop and other programs.

  • RANT: I'm not confident at all about my activation of Windows 10.

If you're like me, you have a valid copy of Windows 7 or 8 / 8.1. In my case, I purchased my copy directly from Microsoft (sales receipt and proof of activation included).

If you've been following Microsoft's support forum all night (I have), you'll notice a disturbing trend.

    • A lot of people who have valid activations do not activate
    • Those post are quickly bumped down without reply from Microsoft (and without new post taking their place).

So us customers have been working together trying to figure out what the REAL issue is. And why many of us noticed our product key ended with 3V66T.

^ If this holds true, a lot of you are going to come up invalid. And there maybe nothing you can do about it except buy a NEW computer or buy a new copy of Windows, again.

  • Thats just the generic productkey for W10... activation servers are kinda overloaded, give it a few days and see what happens then...

The server would have nothing to do with my Windows 8 key being tossed out in place of that default Windows 10 key.

My copy is activated, but it's activated with that "default key"... That is where the concern comes from.

  • I think I will wait for a while, because there's always that mass explosion of "OOPS" after Microsoft releases a new OS. Plus, if I wait then that will enable me to purchase it at a discounted price for being a student if I end up with the time to enroll in more classes.

Saw someone was spending a lot of time with Photoshop. Any experience with Lightroom by chance?

You may be the smart one for waiting.

    Speaking in general...

I'm curious on what people would find using this little tool after upgrading.

I had a friend tell me I had bad luck, until he discovered he was in the same boat as I. lol :P A lot of people didn't pay close attention when installing or activating.

Not the full resolute, obviously... Never share those... But if the last 4 end with 3V66T ... Welcome to The Titanic
