"Prohibit (or disable) Quote" option

I use a lot the HTML code to insert documents, images, graphics... and many of these elements are very large. When users quote these posts this action generate lengthy threads. There are also problems with the HTML elements because users are not allowed to use HTML (security measure) and the quoted elements are not shown.

Just as there is the "Prohibit Editing" option would be very useful "Prohibit Quote" option to avoid mentioned and similar problems.

  • That's the wrong solution if you ask me, just another option to clutter up the edit post dropdown.

What you've described as being the issue sounds more like it's an issue with HTML posts in general. Perhaps a better solution would be attempting to convert the HTML to BBCode if the quoting member lacks HTML posting permissions.

  • Hi @Trixie Tang :)

The problem is not that the user can not use HTML. If I post a big table I don't want every user quotes the table and create a very large thread. I mentioned HTML because It is what I use to generate this content but if I write a very long post with a law (without HTML) I don't want to be quoted in every post because this creates a very large thread and the table or law is the first post (the subject of the thread) and is unnecessary quote. Imagine laws of 50 pages transcribed in the first post and quoted this posts again and again by different users (this is another of my cases).

  • Hi @Throwholics

I know but I want a quotes. Only I want to prohibit quotes in determinate cases. Similar like "Prohibit Editing" option. You can set editing options in the ACP but the admin (or mod) can prohibit the edit for one post at any moment.

Still sounds like the issue is limited to certain kinds of posts. Have you tried to explain to your users that quoting whole posts isn't necessary? Have you pointed out to them that WBB makes it easy to quote only small parts of a post rather than quoting the whole thing?

I think this is something that may sort itself out if people just got used to quoting select portions of posts rather than the whole thing.
