Official Demo Page

  • In a view to get more customers Woltlab must create a official demo page of Burning Board. I know there are unofficial ones available but they use a old version of Burning Board.

  • That is a part of this very official forum ;)

I don't think there will ever be an administrative demo. One can simply use WBBLite for that.

  • I am saying this because demo page would increase sales.

That is an assumption of yours. ;)

Wl will have their on opinion on that, maybe they think the benefit of such a demonstration is not worth the effort, hence you can use WBBLite 2 ;) All in all i don't really think an administrative demontration is needed, and there have never been many requests for that (to be true, yours is the first i have read in ~4 years here).

  • It is a bit difficult to build a demonstration ACP for users, so that they can test everything without doing harm to our servers and customers data. We would have to sandbox such a system and even then it could be cracked. That is the main reason why there is no such testing area for the administration.

We have thought about installing an administration demo, but have decided not to do so, because of the security issues we would face … ;)

  • Hello sairanjank,

I agree that the English texts should have screenshots with English content, but videos mean a lot of work since you have to make and edit them and then also keep them updated, which means making new ones.

But as Tr3kk3r already mentioned, there is Burning Board Lite 2.1 which is free and basically the same as Burning Board 3.1, it just lacks "many" features (which are mostly for enhanced customization and easier moderation). So if you install Burning Board Lite on your webspace (if you have non, you can easily get free webspace which are enough for tests, or you can use a program like XAMPP or MAMP, depending on your operating system, with which you can install it locally on your computer). Burning Board Lite has the exact same Admin Control Panel as Burning Board, just "some" pages and forms are missing which rely on features of Burning Board. So you can test it yourself which is - in my option - way better than watching a video :).

How do I install on a Ubuntu machine?

  • i agree with the staff above in saying it's better for there own safty not too implement a "demo" board for people who want too try it out , yesterday i had someone ask me if i would install a demo version of WBB too try out as they knew i had a license and they where wanting too buy WBB so i did install it on my old server and they tried it out (deleted it now don't worry) but they did ask why you people don't have an offical demo and i basically gave the same answer as was said above

  • The other forum software you keep talking about that has this so called "demo" are probably commercial only.
Woltlab has a free version out that anyone can get and install as many instances they like (WBBLite 2.x). Why would they need a demo of a commercial version when WBBLite 2.x IS the demo. It's got the limitations of those commercial demos you find from say vBulletin or Invision Power Board, but you get unlimited access to that "demo" when you have WBBLite 2.x installed on your own server. Another reason why Woltlab doesn't need a demo is that each web server is configured differently (whether it's a small or large difference), so before you buy, you can use the free version to check how things work on YOUR configuration (or your host's configuration).
These days, a demo is over rated if you have a free version out that does almost the same exact thing as the commercial one. Before I used my license to my advantage, I used the WBBLite 2 first to see if I would like the new system and I installed it on my personal computer before I installed it on my hosted site.
So again, no need for a demo if a free version is available for unlimited use and/or testing.
