From time to time, I feel the need to correct a few posting errors, sometimes of my own doing. Once in a blue, when its on the user end.

I would rather be able to do this without having an edit by name or date.

You mean here or in general?
If in general then you can easily make the proper settings for it.

Check the box: can edit without notice
And then this edit by date... Will Not be shown.

Furthermore given the correct permissions a moderator or administrator can chose to hide the edit note:
