​The difference between page description and meta description?

    What's the difference between page description and meta description? When setting up a site using WoltLab you have both fields in the ACP.

    Thank you, mv993 but I was wondering why WoltLab has fields for both a page description and a meta description.

    The page description is displayed on the page below the page's title. It is also the fallback for the meta description if no meta description was specified. While the meta description is only used for the meta tag in the page header.

    I've problems with googles webmastertools. They say description tags are missing for all forum start pages. I never configured descriptions by creating new forums.

    Wouldn't it be nice if WoltLab provides a fallback for forum descriptions? In source code the description tags for forum start pages look like:

    <meta name="description" content="">


    It's only an inspiration.
