How do I turn off the box, and container under content and above the footer? As I had moved that stuff to the sidebar. Thanks.

Not sure this is what you want or need, but go to: ACP >Content >Menus; and then look in Menu Items

Not quite, there is a set of boxes, before the footer that displays the Users online and Statistics. If you are in a thread or forum it will show newests posts or etc.
I do not want anything at all to display in that whole box OR the box either on the forum list.
Did you look in: ACP >Configuration >Forum; and listed there are four (4) areas you can check out as to what is checked (allowed) or not
