A must Installed Plugin List

  • Everything by SoftCreatR.

    That's stupid. :D

Of course he has great plugins but everyone should decide for himself what is needed. I personally use 7 of his plugins (and one is originally by codeQuake) because I don't really need the others.

and could you tell those 7 plugins?

  • Of course it is, SoftCreatR has 68 plugins :P. No one should ever need that many plugins.

Why? Got several hundreds in one board. My wbb has nearly hundred. A wbb i had times ago had nearly 200. Mostly small ones for convenience. Everybody should have those plugins he need an benefit him.

Those seem like insane amounts. What would you do if something started causing problems with your site, how could you possibly track it down with 200 plugins installed?

WoltLab really needs a way to disable all plugins without removing them.

so, you have to manually delete the file to disable them? there's no DISABLE / UNINSTALL button?

As i said, most of them are very small cosmetic, behaviour-changing or optimizing plugins, and the really "insane" amounts are no wbbs. The disable feature is indeed missing but you can track problems without removing the plugins.

There are different kinds of administrators out there, too. I'm one of the "You can't have enough features - for when you need it" fraction. Others are of the "Only the absoluteley most needed features" fraction. I like it when the board software offers a wide range of features not needed by everyone by default (Woltlab does not like that, apparently :D). Today, hardware is so powerful and software is so well optimized that this does no longer have impact on the board running smooth.

You can uninstall, but you can't just disable most them.

Yes, as D3nnis3n said, you can uninstall but not disable them. Disabling plugins is one feature missing from WoltLab that I believe all of the other major commercial forum scripts have.

What you have to remember though. If there was an option to disable mods, any tables added to database by the mod are still present in it (with it only disabled). If you was to delete the mod folder from the forum (without deleting mod data like phpBB can do) after mod is disabled. You would end up with extra tables in your DB left behind not being used.

I only point this out because the amount of people that disable a mod with phpBB, and then forget to delete mod data next before removing the mod itself happens a lot by mistake.

Then phpBB needs to improve their script.

  • You don't understand how a mod works proper then. If you only disable a mod, then all settings should remain intact (the data still stored in DB) ready to be reactivated quick again. The only time data should be dropped from DB is when you completely remove the mod like WBB does now (there is no disable) option.

  • In WBB you don't just remove some files, it has an uninstall routine, just as if you installed or uninstalled software in windows. This routine would fully delete everything even when the plugin was disabled before uninstall.

He has way more than that ;)

For example I got a plugin made by him which calculates imperial system to metric :D

I highly doubt someone else would need that haha
