As per this thread, any image in the clipboard does not paste in to the editor window, whether by keyboard or menu paste. I was led to understand this was a feature that should work.
I am on Chrome latest, OSX latest, Macbook Pro.

There are currently no plans, especially considering that both browser support and their implementations still vary quite a lot.
Noooooo! Gah, my hopes are dashed. This would completely revolutionise the forum experience.
Is there scope for writing a plugin? I think plugins can be added to the editor?
How do low-budget sites like snag.gy do it? Can't be that hard.
Surely there are libraries that abstract the browser- and OS-specifics?
I can see that this functionality is important for you and we actually had support for clipboard pasting of images back in the early days of Burning Board 4.1. Unfortunately it didn't really work in any browser beyond Firefox and even then the results weren't always satisfying.
In the end this is an economic decision for now, it provides very little value considering that I have to spend a lot of time getting it to work and running all sort of tests. This is actually one of these features that are still on my list, but - to be honest - located pretty much at the bottom.
Thank you for taking the time to explain. I'm sorry that the feature is so low in priority, given what a major boost it would give to functionality. It really would transform the forum experience for my users.
If it won't be officially supported I may see if I can find a programmer to create an addon or something. I'd be willing to pay.
Maybe you can ask duplicate Melina (https://support.softcreatr.de) not sure if he would be able to. But it might be a good way to start asking =)

It's one of my favorite features.
I can't imagine being without it.
I probably do use it more than most

I made the comment because this post states that it was working in Ubuntu.
Update: Currently working on image pasting, so far it works with Chrome and Firefox; Pasted images are directly uploaded as attachment. There are still some issues in IE/Edge, but I'm already looking into them to see if I can find a solution for them.

Sounds great!
I'm done and changes have been uploaded.
Pasting from clipboard is now supported in:
I haven't checked it in Safari yet, but it should do just fine. Please let me know if you're experiencing any issues.
Edit: Pasting images in Firefox is still a bit subpar, I'm looking into a more stable implementation.
Trying to edit the post with attachments:
F12 Console:
[WCF.DOMNodeRemovedHandler] identifier 'WCF.Attachment.Upload' is already bound to a callback
But not the copy and paste
It does when there is only an image in clipboard, but it doesn't if you copy an image from within Chrome (right-click -> copy image), as it does something different. I have found an solution to support both modes though, will upload it soon.
Test with FF on Ubuntu
I've just uploaded two changes:
