First of all you should use the recaptcha from WCF 2.1 with the captcha

register your domain here:
https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/index.html

To get the API key. That is the new improved version of captcha

If you still want to have security questions use the following pluing:

Do you use the new captcha version?
This should hold back most of the bots anyway.

And if they guess the right answers then you should have better questions

The email confirmations:
since WCF 2.1 a link is back which only has to be clicked again:P

your page must be quite active. I do not encounter any spam users...

This may sound stupid, but i had the following questions "Is this a Question?" and it helped, no bot came through and one spammer even mailed me with the question!

Maybe @SoftCreatR has some news regarding his anti spam suite.

I am surprised really they answer questions too nowadays. My Vbulletin forum is heavily spammed to death by these stupid bots. My mods got frustrated and quit. So I added Akismet, so with Akismet in VB, atleast bots messages went to "approve" list and did not get posted. Thankfully.

Any updates with new anti spam measures? Its been a few months of this post and so just asking as Ill be going live on WBB by tomorrow on my main site.

Usually the honeypots and the recapcha Version 2 limit the spam already.
There is no known case of a bot overcoming those spam features.

Neverthelesess, Sascha is working on the API for stopforumspam.

Yes, but I'm rolling live the test version. that has database back to 26th August =( Live forum conversion conked off twice due to few errors, twice power cut, internet stoppages. Got irritated and don't have patience to do it again. It takes 20 hours to do just users :O Yes downgrading DB worked well. I could rebuild immediately after downgrading.

Now I am updating permissions, user groups etc.

There was an option to do that? I already pulled 26th August and started the forum. So cannot go back anymore. But nevertheless, Im happy with the new software and hope with this software and my SEO efforts in coming months will revive the forum and make it more active. 50% of my visitors come from Tablet and Smartphones.
