You really have to give the attachment the parameter to float it.
Example: [attach=X,left][/attach]You didn't do it in your example and thus it doesn't float. So it works as you inserted it.

How would someone do that with the editor, without having to resort to raw bb code?

The first example simply is your own fault.
If you want to float the text on the side of the image you have to insert the image before the text and not after. So the behavior is exactly what you inserted. -

Yes, but in the first example there is no quote and even in the first post here I can't see any quote. This is what I meant with “first example”.

You can set the float behavior for attachments by clicking on the attachment, it will offer you edit options for that. No need to juggle with the BBCode. BBCodes are stupid.

That makes it easier, but still not working. The text keeps getting pushed above the photo. -
I see it, it is caused by the browser inserting the image in an odd location. Also embedded images are missing some kind of margin, it's lame when the text looks like it is sticky.
Anyway, it shouldn't be that much to get that fixed.

Applied a few fixes, please be aware that some of them might not affect already existing posts.
Edit:
Looks like the compiler used to minify our JavaScript files is failing, I've reverted to an earlier version while I resolve this.
