It would appear that WBB stores Gravatars locally rather than getting them directly from Gravatar.com, and I'm not too sure when/if it updates Gravatars... but I have noticed that changing my Gravatar leads to issues like this...
Gravatars should be taken directly from Gravatar.com to avoid issues like this. Is there some reason why WBB attempts to store them locally instead?
Just think about a thread that has hundreds of answers from hundreds of people, which are using Gravatar. When not caching them for some time, it would always load all of these Gravatars on every page load (even on mobile devices with limited bandwidth, etc.).

This "hiccup" will be fixed with version 4.1.0. I report this too: Gravatar-Cache nicht fix sondern flexibel (German)
With the comming version 4.1.0 you can override the gravatar-cache manually in your avatar-settings.
