Random Thoughts & chat

  • So I figured I'd draw out those of you who speak, English, and say, hello. There is this misconception here that no one on Woltlab Burning Board speaks, English or that very few people do.

I know this to be false since I've been running back and forth in my DM (direct message) box and have 26 conversations going at once. It's about time some of you stop lurking and let others know you're out there.

That and because there is already a German version of this thread. Basically a place for people to chit chat or share random thoughts, that may not exactly deserve their own thread.

So hello, I'm Adam. Who else here can understand, English? :whistling:

    Hey Adam,

    greetings from Germany! ;)
    How ya doin' ?

p.s. English is a required subject in our schools, if they're not lazy, they will understand you. :D

My english is not the best, but it's enough most of the time.

When you came accross the plugin development board, you most likely have read from me already ;)

  • Google Chrome automatically can translate German to English and it does an unusually good job at it; compared to other languages, but it's not exactly 100%. I would imagine it is the same the other way around as well.

    I've noticed ;)
I was trying to bring out a few other people. The misconception on here is that few people speak English here, which isn't true. As stated in my first post, I have well over a dozen people who have sent me pm's back and forth.... Wish I could convince them to say hello here in this thread.

It's a good idea. And I think we are on a good way. Back in the days there was practically zero activity from english speakers. But when the website was redone and more english documentation appeared, actvity began to climb. There are more english threads noe then ever, they appear regularly and get answered. And it's slowly getting more. I hope for it to continue, since it gives me a way to practice a lille bit of english in a very informal way - and since i'm student of computer science, thats comes in quite handy.

It would be better if a few people would stop lurking

  • Hi Adam, also a native English (well, Scottish) speaker here... been using wBB in one incarnation or another for years, but only ever on small sites. Sounds like you've got your hands full!

    I keep busy. :P

I'll be converting my site which has almost 300,000 post. From there I have a few other sites that I'll be converting as well. One of them is a really large community that is still using vBulletin 3.6 (its heavily modded). That one will be a challenge I imagine. lol

  • I'm from Australia, I am in the process of converting my vB4 forum. Just doing a test run first and getting everything the way we want it. I have been deleting a lot of low quality threads to try to improve in google but still over 200k posts.

If you have deleted visitor messages that haven't been deleted physically then I would suggest clearing them all out first before doing your import as the import will restore them. I was worried that it will do the same with posts as I have a lot of these over the years and there's just too many to prune one page at a time but luckily the import just makes those go *poof*.

    Good luck :)

I hope WBB does not rush 4.1. I understand the need to be competitive and to stay fresh, but I would much prefer things to be done right. :)

I'm betting we see a final release sometime in March. Really wish they would release the beta of Woltlab Blogs. I like the release schedule of 4.0.x because they had betas of their other products. This gave a better time line and flexibility of planning. I was able to convert a few sites to 4.0.x because of it.

But their current holding back is making it VERY hard and very inconvenient. There are things in motion that are on a time scale and Woltlab is going to get left behind...

Progress... We're making progress... Really looking forward to 4.1 :D

That awkward moment when a developer updates their resource on github, but Woltlab doesn't like zip files. lol
