If you do not speak German, you will not understand Sprache term. However, a flag and the name of the language is a recognisable icon to indicate a language selector.

The name, yes. However, a flag does never represent a language! This is a design flaw since nearly forever in so many systems, WoltLab Suite not excluded.
The flag can be replaced with the font awesome language icon.
It’s not only this place but also the design of the language information in the thread list. But that’s another topic.
We have added icons there to make it easier to understand the functionality.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to display the selected state directly there, because the code is not designed for that.
