When you @ a user on *ANY* profile wall, it doesn't hyperlink to them, BUT if you edit the comment/posting, it has the [user=number]USER[/user] bbcode. I didn't know if it was supposed to hyperlink or not.
Possible profile wall bug.

The profile wall does not support the embedded object system, which is a requirement for the mentions to work. This is a known issue that is resolved with the upcoming version 5.2, which prevents the system from picking up those @ mentions in the first place.
