Username is invalid - 25 characters long

  • Username is invalid - 25 characters long

Site clearly reads pick between 3 - 25, but tells you it's invalid if you pick 25 (tested here). If you've changed that setting, the text should reflect it. If you've not changed that setting, it's still a bug.

Usernames may not contain words longer than 20 characters, so you can actually go up to 25 characters (the configurable maximum is 100 characters) but it will still require a space after 20 successive characters. We'll take no steps to change the current behavior, as this is a crafted scenario that does not happen in reality - this is also backed by the fact that you're the first after many years to notice this hard-wired restriction ;)

what impact would this have in the real-world where there are sites with user-names with 25 characters without spaces?

  • None really, people can simply use a shorter username instead. ?(

Just a forum username, they can use anything when all said and done... and you have to take into consideration things like length of username displayed in sidebar with forum posts and does it fit the width.

I'm sorry but that does not answer my question.

  • It does. Noone needs and noone should take a that long username with spaces. It will not fit into the Design. There would be no problem to remove the "_" in your name. It won't be harder to memorize or type in.

If you are asking what will happen when you import such a userbase in a WBB, you should specify the question.

  • the question is automatically implied with common sense. it is simple common sense and a point of fact that not all communities are alike.

  • There was no implication of an planned import. Users just can't register with those names.
