Resources without downloads or links

Proposal: Allow File Base to have resources that do not have require downloads or outside links in addition to the available options of downloads or outside links.

Reasoning:

For software development purposes, it may be valuable to keep all your resources unified in the same part of your site. You may have have downloads and outside link sources, but you may also have written resources for that development which for the sake of continuity and general categorization, would be inappropriate to divide and scatter.

Competitive reason:

Both IP.Board and XenForo have resource / download managers which allow for this and it would only be appropriate for Woltlab to compete in a competitive manner.

Not a bug... Should be classified as feature request.

If you want to provide a (software) documentation or a guide for some of your files you uploaded to the filebase, you could just write it into the description or put a link to it in the description. You could also use the board or blog for it.

But providing an option to not upload a file in a filebase is just....senseless.

Template edits or customized modification would be an example. This is something vBulletin, Xenforo, and IP.Board all demonstrate

I hate using a 3rd party as an example, but I feel showing is a more effective way than telling sometimes.. This being one of them.

This is XenForo Resource Manager which is compatible to Woltlab's File Manger.

You will note that their resources allow for downloads, purchases, and outside links... Just like Woltlab File Manager 2.1 (coming soon).

However, some resource do not necessarily require you to download, purchase, or redirect your elsewhere.

This allows for easy categorization and overall continuity throughout the site. You expect to find available resources where the resources are. Keeping things simple, easy, and unified.

My proposal is for Woltlab to add this 1 small missing element for simplicity, continuity, and functionality.

This shows that versioning could also be useful for tutorials, at least in my view

You have to be a customer to see that and I was trying to pick something that everyone could see
