Update from Burning Board 3.0 to 3.1

Rating:

Since there are still some problems and confusion concerning the update from Burning Board 3.0 to 3.1, i would like to take this opportunity to again address the common problems and describe our recommended approach.

Preparations
For the update to version 3.1, Burning Board version 3.0.9 and Community Framework version 1.0.11 pl 3 must be installed. If you have not yet installed these versions, you must first update both packages with the automatic update to the correct version.

Who has installed plugins from the community, should carefully review them prior to the update. You can check in our WoltLab Community or on the website of the respective provider whether a plugin is compatible with version 3.1 or if an appropriate update is available. If in doubt, plugins should be uninstalled before the update.

Burning Board 3.1 and all of the additional packages are located on a separate package server. This new server must be created in the administration panel under System -> Packages -> Add Server. The address of the package server is: http://update.woltlab.com/tempest/

The update
The actual update is quite simple. When you start the automatic update function, the update to version 3.1 will be offered, so that you will just have to check it and confirm. Depending on the system, the update may take several minutes - please be patient.

After the update
After the Burning Board update you'll also have to update installed plugins (eg. Community Calendar or the SEO plugin). The appropriate packets are again available using the "Automatic Update". The new plugins Blog 1.0, Gallery 1.0 and Guestbook 1.0 will not install automatically. You'll have to install them manually after the update to Burning Board 3.1. The plugins can be found and installed with the function "find packages".

After the forum and all the plugins are installed or updated, it is recommended that you enable the desired new functions under System -> Options -> Modules on/off. Furthermore, the access rights of user groups have to be processed to adjust which user group may use the newly added functions in which way.
