Google Maps API V2, or V3

Hello Everybody:
OK, I'm looking into the Google Maps thing for the Gallery and when I go to Google to sign up for an API-key, I notice
they are offering an API V3 that does not require an API-key. So the question is, can I use the API V3 with the Gallery, or I do
go with the older API V2 for now?

Community Gallery 1.1 does not require an API key since it's using the new Google Maps API v3 - the previous version 2 required an API-key.
